Do we want to improve Europe, or give it up?

This week EC president Barroso delivered the 4th State of the Union Address in the European Parliament, and what is being called the Case for Europe.

"My answer is clear', he continued: 'Engage! If you don't like Europe as it is: improve it!

As any human endeavor the EU is not perfect. Controversies about the division of labour between the national and European levels will never be conclusively ended. 

Not everything needs a solution at European level. Europe must focus on where it can add most value. It does not have to meddle where this is not the case. 

The EU needs to be big on big things and smaller on smaller things."

EC invests in ICT Research

The European Commission has today announced one of the biggest calls ever for information and communications technology (ICT) research proposals under the EU's research framework programmes.

It will result in project funding of € 780 million in 2011. This funding will advance research on the future internet, robotics, smart and embedded systems, photonics, ICT for energy efficiency, health and well-being in an ageing society, and more. Under the Digital Agenda for Europe, the Commission has committed to maintaining the pace of a 20% yearly increase of the annual ICT R&D budget at least until 2013.

Deci, investiti in IT: it's a sure bet ;)

Strategia Europei - wanna do IT?

37 de pagini despre smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. IT-ul ocupa loc de cinste in topul tacticilor de tip Flagship, si anume prin Digital Agenda.

Revolutia digitala incepe acum iar ideile sunt bine venite.

Digital Agenda inseamna si reformare interna pentru sistemul de guvernanta IT al Comisiei. Trebuie sa ne optimizam structurile interne, sa devenim mai inteconectabili, mai verzi, mai eficienti si mai competitivi. Mai avem mult pana sa devenim un model de referinta...am avut azi ocazia sa il ascult pe CIO-ul de la Amazon si suntem departe de lumea buna :)

PS: Digital Agenda are si o anexa cu principalii indicatori IT&C. Romania e cam in coada EU 27 dar suntem pe locul 10 la sistemul de E-procurement si 11 la exporturile de soft.
